The 2025 Health Innovation Summit convened top administration officials, current and former members of Congress, industry leaders, and nonprofits to discuss how policy can support life-saving technologies in an era of rapid transformation.
In an era when technological advancement is rapidly reshaping the healthcare landscape, the U.S. Chamber brought together a diverse group of business leaders, policymakers, nonprofits, academics, and media to highlight groundbreaking innovations and explore their potential applications in patient care.
The Role of AI and MedTech in Healthcare
As technologies such as artificial intelligence, large language models, and MedTech continue to evolve at an unprecedented pace, it is crucial for policy to support these life-saving innovations. The private sector’s role in modernizing and enhancing the standard of care for all Americans cannot be overstated.
Attendees heard how AI is transforming healthcare, including listening to an exchange between a patient and a large language model (LLM) trained to operate as a care nurse in non-medical settings.
Insights from Key Leaders
Attendees also heard from Dr. Mehmet Oz, Administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, in his first D.C. event since confirmation. In a conversation with U.S. Chamber Chief Policy Officer Neil Bradley, Dr. Oz emphasized the importance of centering health systems and care delivery around the patient.
When asked about his vision for success at CMS, Oz highlighted the significance of intellectual rigor and data-driven strategies in care delivery: “Ask real questions and be curious about the answers. When you get them; have courage, be compassionate, and look out for people.”
Legislative and Industry Perspectives
Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA-01) sat down with the Chamber’s Head of Government Affairs, Rodney Davis, to provide a health policy outlook for the 119th Congress. The fireside chat touched on the intersection of pro-growth tax reform and health innovation, how the administration is bringing new perspectives to the health space, and how Congress can advance legislation to bolster innovation in the health space.
Ongoing Engagement and Future Directions
Among those priorities: TCJA reauthorization and modernized energy policy to support data centers that power AI-assisted drug development.
Diogo Rau, Chief Information and Digital Officer at Eli Lilly, shared insights on the transformative power of AI in drug discovery, particularly in mastering small molecules, proteins, and genetic sequencing.
While the summit showcased the intersection of health, technology, and policy, the Chamber remains actively engaged in all facets of the healthcare industry—from financing and insurance to pharmaceuticals and devices—while ensuring the U.S. keeps its competitive edge on the global stage.
