Deal Announced to Acquire Bellevue Health Tech Company | News

Edifecs

Bellevue-based health care technology company Edifecs will be acquired by South Jordan, Utah-based Cotiviti under an agreement announced Monday.

No terms were announced for the deal, which is subject to customary regulatory approvals prior to closing.

Cotiviti works with more than 200 health care payers to deliver higher-performing payment accuracy, risk adjustment, quality improvement, and consumer-engagement programs, according to its website, adding that it helps consumers ensure their health care bills are paid appropriately and helps reduce fraud, waste, and abuse. It also supports the retail industry with audit and recovery services, and says it has more than 9,000 employees globally.

Edifecs provides technology to its payer and health-system customers, which serve nearly 300 million people in the U.S. health care market.

The combined Edifecs-Cotiviti platform will enhance connectivity between payers and providers, enable increased collaboration in the delivery of care, and accelerate deployment of value-added solutions in the health care system, according to a news release announcing the acquisition.

Operating under the Cotiviti brand, the combined organization’s clients can accelerate business objectives with meaningful improvements in efficiency and quality of care, the release said, noting that Dr. Emad Rizk, chairman, president, and CEO of Cotiviti, will lead the combined company.

“Cotiviti and Edifecs share a common goal of fostering a high-quality and viable health care system,” Rizk said in the release. “This acquisition will provide enhanced value to our clients by combining our talented teams and advanced technology to increase focus on interoperability, enable value-based care, and streamline health plan operations, all to better both patient outcomes and the sustainability of healthcare.”

Edifecs CEO Venkat Kavarthapu added, “Edifecs’ interoperable cloud solutions support connectivity and collaboration across payers and providers to unlock value and enable more effective member care. Efficient data and information access and exchange is essential to improving transparency and reducing administrative waste. We look forward to accelerating our ability to enhance our solutions by coming together with Cotiviti’s high-performing solutions.”

Edifecs was founded in 1996 by Sunny Singh, who served as CEO until Kavarthapu took over in 2021. In 2023, Edifecs had 856 employees, according to the Puget Sound Business Journal’s 2024 Book of Lists.
